That doesn't sound like a bad idea - as long as it's perfect.

I didn't read thread from the start, but... I thought about it also, but... There are two problems. Timer with float in it (0.0) is a bit bugged, cuz amxx doesn't hook it in 32byte system (if I understood right what eDark said me). But there also is another function what can get half-life time using global data, but I'm not sure is it the same... Using integer (0) we cannot start exactly from the frame when player pressed the timer, cuz we are using system time - real time as an offset. Now some scriptors might have be thinking about set_task(1.0, ...., ..., "b") function. It uses the same bugged float (get_gametime()). So the only chance for perfect timer is glb_time, but it can be the same as get_gametime().

In other words it would be better for some programmer to create something what hooks hl.exe and hooks time in float with 32byte system when timer is started and when stopped.

// edit:

Or maybe I know a way how to make timers work perfectly, only need to know everything about all kz timers (in entities with classnames, targetnames, and functions).

spr1n, and some others: I see you don't really want this change, but please consider this:

In the record list, there are demos like these:
clintmo_bhoptoon_Cordyline_0036.rar, real time: 00:37.3280
dg_winterclimb_brian_0058.rar, real time: 00:59.0250
kz_midnight_SuPa_0108.rar, real time: 01:09.1240
cg_coldbhop_v2_bibo_0056.rar, real time: 00:57.2734
cg_islands_soulftw_0059.rar, real time: 00:60:2087

Now imagine that you made these demos:
clintmo_bhoptoon_spr1n_0036.rar, real time: 00:36.3280
dg_winterclimb_spr1n_0058.rar, real time: 00:58.0250
kz_midnight_spr1n_0108.rar, real time: 01:08.1240
cg_coldbhop_v2_spr1n_0056.rar, real time: 00:56.2734
cg_islands_spr1n_0059.rar, real time: 00:59:2087

With todays rule you would not get the WR. With tomorrows rule you would. And this is the most reasonable and definite rule in my opinion

+1
When u put it that way it seems to be the most reasonable and most fair!

akM15/11/2008 15:12

basicly all u guys saying, ignore the time on the timer.

anny015/11/2008 15:36

no u don't ignore it you just check if your time is better when u have a draw!
That's the best solution!

BLT^_^15/11/2008 16:22(edited 15/11/2008 16:23)

the best should be a timer ( plugin ) in game that counts with xx:xx:xx like 08:24:33 .

would rock .

loopah15/11/2008 18:07

hah, simple....

Just may the fastest time be a wr. is that so hard to figure out :P ?

Sounds good! Imo next question is, how to check the time. Perhaps a plugin would be good? That way you could also see your time while you're jumping. Ofc fps-death is not a bad solution either.

PS. cg_islands_soulftw_0059.rar, real time: 00:60:2087

00:60? :)

boom.dll15/11/2008 19:11

haha flibo! nicely spotted XD

NumB15/11/2008 20:02

I already have 1 plugin idea what will work perfectly even with datas like 0:00:00.00 (h:m:float-s). But am talking with mappers, cuz think that it can be possible to do even w/o amxx.

thopa15/11/2008 20:46

It was me cut/pasting, I didn't think about that. :d

wRath` mapper15/11/2008 21:24

I don't see what was wrong with the cg_islands stuff?

ova15/11/2008 21:36

but what about maps like fairy_island[+...] and kz_conveyor and many other with buttons between pressing start and stop
demoslayer records from pressing start to the first button you press after ,witch may not be stop ,and the questionmark... ?

cuz, 00:60:2087 should be written 01:00:2087

ill put it like this, i WILL be ok with this if ONLY you do this with ties. wich mean no decimal rule. (00:00:0) wich means, times with a bugged time WILL be able to be tied. but other times wich have the same time on timer as i nfps death, shouldnt be able to tie. that ok?

What would we do without You, boom.dll? <3 So, thopa made a good decision in this case :)

I respect your point of view and I understand it from the beginning =)

i usually dont get timercounter seconds-digit change if its over ~0.2-0.3 of next second. anyway if i would made that demos, well ofc its a pitty, but I would agreed that i dont deserve wr this time and make an aim to improove myself.

back to reality.. rpz_downfall[boxes] wr is 00:05.8158
I lucked 00:05.32 a while ago and never had a thought that my demo is better than the wr. i bet many didnt. coz wr that what is done first (legally). and this 0.x seconds difference idea is just a hungar to beat WRs or to make WRs avaliable to be beaten, no matter what it takes.

I thought of this too, and with this rule there won't be a 0.1 rule which many people dislike, and the demos WILL be correct.

leggie16/11/2008 13:30

so if you only do it with ties, what happens if you tie a wr of 5 seconds etc but with a better fps death time?
