yeah... like kzm's plugin....... if you could use that it would be insane and SO much easier

I'm sure you can fix this NumB<3 With your knowledge about the HL engine, you should be able to make an accurate plugin/timer. At least I sure hope so ^^ And im sure you like challenges ;)

And about this timer thingy, im not sure what to think. A part of me wants this change and the other doesn't. :/
Wouldn't it be great if Kreedz himself made a 00:00:00 timer from the beginning? I blaim Kreedz! =( Ban him from this site!

I need to contact some mapper for testing... Found idea what is 100% possible w/o amxx and will be 0:00:00.00 style...

elITe^16/11/2008 16:51

Sounds really nice NumB. Keep up the good work!<3

just something about the accuracy:
fps-death/demolyser show the time it took for the person who recorded the demo. this time is 100% correct to 0.001s since it s saved directly in the demo from the hl engine and it is getting it from the cpu-clock.
if you replay the demo and take the time you ll always get a different time especially if your computer is slower than the computer it was recorded on because you ll have different fps. (we already got some complains about that and tested it...)

but any timedifference under 0.01 seconds is senseless because the cmd input (+use) is bound to the fps so with 100 fps it is 0.01s. i think the idea of different levels is the best:
- under 1 sec: 0.01s
- under 10 sec: 0.1s
- more than 10 sec: 1.0s
maybe change those steps ...
if you decide to change the rules i ll change/add it in fps-death too ofc so it wont be too much work for the demo analysing
to stay with a buggy timer even since we know it is bugged is nonsense in my opinion

Bold text says it all.

eDark has spoken =D Never doubted your word about fps-death not being accurate, but this is a big issue and therefore we must be really careful about this decision.
Thanks for your input eDark

I Agree thopa. But im still hoping that NumB will finish this thing he's working on so it would be possible for the player to be able to see the actual time in-game aswell.

I Haven't read all posts so please don't mind if I repeat something...

First of all you have to think about if a smaller unit than seconds is needed. From my point of view kz has reached a point where it is needed.

I think nearly everyone in this community wants to see the fastest run, I mean this is what these world records are about so thops's decision is comprehensible.

The fight on kzno_xtremeblock between hel^_x and FoF made clear that the time with is displayed on the kz timer is inaccurate and doesn't neccessariely show who's run is faster. This is the reasen why a new method to measure the exact time is obviously needed.

But if you use this new method, ofcourse you have to do it for every demo and not just the "critcal" ones which leads to alot of work but from my point of view this work is neccessary to keep the "high status" of XJ.

If you remain with the old way, ofcourse heL^_x's demo has to be accepted because kz timer says that he was faster (if it's not a timerbug).

P.S.
it does only make sense to measure with fps death if it's sure that this time is 100% accurate.

As I also stated @ other topic, I 100% agree with you. Why to play with an incorrect timer when you can have a correct timer :)?

my idea = win ;[

NumB16/11/2008 22:31(edited 16/11/2008 22:33)

There already is a timer with 0.01 second correction, but it crashes when you press stop button... Waiting for MedioN (one of the best mapper of original cs to come online [he created maps like de_dust2_2x2]) to come online.

s1gh17/11/2008 04:22

Yeah, okay NumB, it'll be great if there will be a new timer for the maps to come, but this problem will still exist with the 500+ maps that already exist.

I stand by my original post. I don't agree with the idea of doing this just for ties, because what the hell does it matter not to do it for all the demos if you do it for tied ones?

Also, I think eDark's input should be enough to convince most of you that the fps-death timer is accurate...

NumB17/11/2008 11:20(edited 17/11/2008 11:23)

All those maps... We (amxx scriptors) can create plugin what mby will become official timer. Or programmers like eDark can create a program - dunno.

And now I wont agree with eDark a bit.

If time is like: 0:12:34.56 and it got beaten by 0:12:34.55 - yes, it's only cuz of lucky fps, but if time got beaten by 0:12:34.54 - it's not fps thing.

for example. fof and hel hel should win, so wat if the real time is slower, we play in the game, then we should go with w/e the game tells us, not like they used different timer. if we play the game, then follow wat the game tells us.

but im pretty sure if you watched them 2 demo's hel would hit the timer before fof so maybe it's the demoslayer thats not accurate? IMO it should be the FASTEST time by demo slayer, stormzz told me about a few of cordy's demo's that he got the same/1 second slower than and on fps-death his time was faster..... so maybe it's just fps-death?

due to boom's battle movie FoF pushed the button earlier

OT: maybe a 0.1 rule for few-second-records in no case for all

Imo no limits, if a map gets beaten by 0.01 seconds, it's beaten.

sucks.
